Beware of wet avalanches and sluffs from new snow!en
In the Tatra Mountains, above 1,800 meters above sea level, a low avalanche danger (Level 1) has developed as a result of cooling temperatures and snowfall (Oct. 26). Due to warming temperatures and sunshine over the next two days, there will be an increased occurrence of small avalanches and wet-snow slides on steep, exposed slopes. On slopes with grassy or smooth rocky surfaces, smaller sliding (base) avalanches may also occur. Additional loading of the snowpack on steep slopes and in gullies may also trigger small avalanches.
Stratul de zăpadă
Overnight and on Monday, October 26, between a dusting and 20 cm of new snow fell above 1,250 meters above sea level, with up to 30 cm in some areas above 2,000 meters. The snow fell as temperatures dropped, but we expect warmer weather in the coming days, which will cause the snow to become wet and the snowpack to become unstable. In the highest elevations of the Tatra Mountains, on the northern slopes and in the gullies, old, frozen snow from the September snowfall is present beneath the new snow.
