Privacy policy

What sMeteo keeps in your browser and on its server, and which other services your browser contacts.

This page explains what the site keeps about you and where. In short: there are no accounts, and the settings you change stay in your browser.

In your browser

The site remembers your choices locally: units, the last place you opened, the theme and a few page options. A random visitor number for general visit statistics is kept the same way. All of this lives in cookies and browser storage and disappears when you clear the site data.

On the server

Like any web server, ours writes an access log with the IP address, the requested address, the browser name and the time. Logs are kept for 14 days and are used to find errors and abuse. We build no profile of you from them. We also keep general visit statistics: which pages are opened, from which devices and countries. They help us improve the service. A short link stores only the address of the page it points to.

Location and language

From your IP address the site takes the country and an approximate position, once, to pick the default city and units. This is not stored anywhere. The language comes from your browser settings. A precise location is requested from the browser only when you press the location button, and it is used to find places nearby.

Other services

The base map is loaded by your browser from the map providers listed on the partners page. They see your IP address the way any website you open does.

Weather widget

When the widget is embedded on another site, your browser loads it from smeteo.com. The widget sets no cookies.
